Polka dots and spinning tops is a visual diary of Penny-Rose: op-shopped/thrifted outfits, re-fashioned clothing, sewing trials and tribulations, searches, purchases and reviews of Dunedin op shops.
This needlebook was inspired by Mr A Montgomery who had a haberdashery store in Ravensbourne. He also had a horse and cart and travelled along West Harbour. I needed to replace my old needle case as it was looking grubby and had insufficient "pages". It was made from Aida cross stitch fabric and meant to be a bookmark - I scored it off the front of an old magazine in about 1990. When my dear friend Amy left West Harbour she gave me a bag of felt pieces and some fake fur. Making the book with the felt enabled me to make something useful which would remind me of my friend and also of my community. My plan is to make half a doz of these and sell at Port Chalmers fair.
